At least 12 people have been killed in an explosion in central Afghanistan, the police said.
The blast occurred in Mohammad Agha district in Logar province near a patrolling police convoy, reports say.
The source of the explosion is unclear. One report said it originated from a vehicle and happened near a school, killing many students.
Logar province lies immediately to the south of Kabul and is a major centre for the Taliban insurgency.
Local police official Abdul Hamid told Reuters news agency that "12 students, three police and several civilians" had been killed in the latest blast.
Reports say some people have also been wounded.
A TV station in Kabul said the explosion was the work of a suicide bomber, though there is no official confirmation.
A US military offensive is underway in the troubled southern province of Helmand.
