Chennai Super Kings defeated Bangalore Royal Challengers by 92 runs in an IPL match held at St. George’s Park in Port Elizabeth on Monday (April 20). Batting first on a good wicket, Super Kings reached a challenging total of 179 for five in their allotted 20 overs. Hard hitting Australian batsman, Matthew Hayden gave Super Stars an electrifying start. Hayden along with the other opener Parthiv Patel put on to an opening stand of 106 runs. The 37-yer-old Australian player amassed 65 runs in 35 balls, smashing nine fours and two sixes.
At one time, it was expected that Chennai Super Kings would score more than 200 runs but after the fall of Hayden things started to slow down. However, Super Kings managed to garner enough runs for some powerful batting by England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff. He remained not out on 22 from 13 balls. Chasing the target of 180 runs to win, Royal Challengers were bundled out for mere 87 runs. Chennai's bowling department was led by Sri Lankan magician, Muttiah Muralitharan. He was adjudged the man-of-the-match for taking three wickets for 11 runs in four overs.
Jacques Kallis was the top scorer from Bangalore Royal Challengers team. Kallis scored 24 in 19 balls while Robin Uthappa and Rahul Dravid hit 20 apiece. Besides Muralitharan, Balaji took two while Gony, Flintoff, Morkel and Joginder chipped with one wicket each. Both Chennai and Bangalore now have two points from two games.
