Brazil came from behind to score a 3-2 victory over USA to win the Confederations Cup finals at Johannesburg. Lucio scored a goal in the 84th minute to give the five-time world champions a win over a resurgent US team.
The US had taken a 2-0 lead at halftime. Dempsey and Donovan scored a goal each to give the American team a good lead. But Fabiano scored two goals in the second half to put Brazil back in contention. Earlier, Dempsey gave the US the lead in the 10th minute. Donovan added the second goal in the 27th minute.
The Americans had a chance to upset Brazil. But Fabiano rose to the occasion and scored his fourth goal of the tournament in the 46th minute as he collected a pass from Ramires. Fabiano repeated his feat in the 74th minute as he scored his fifth goal of the tournament to give his team the equaliser. The lead was given by Lucio as he headed a corner kick from Elano in the 84th minute.
This goal prevented an upset result. Brazil upped the game superbly in the second half after being under a lot of pressure at halftime. Meanwhile Spain defeated South Africa 3-2 in extra time in the third place play off in Rustenburg.
