Venus Williams In Wimbledon 2009 Semi-Finals

The five-time winner Venus Williams marched into the semi-finals of the Wimbledon Championships Tuesday without the loss of a set so far, pounding out a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of 11th seed Agnieszka Radwanska.

The American winner will face the winner from top seeded world number one Dinara Safina and German teenage challenger Sabine Lisiki.

The third-seeded Williams needed little more than an hour on court in the sun on a day when British "heatwave" conditions were forecast to touch 33°Celsius to peg back Radwanska.

Police in mega cities to get choppers, says Chidambaram

Police forces in mega cities will be provided with helicopters like in New York and London [Images] and other big cities of the world, Home Minister P Chidambaram [Images] said in Mumbai [Images] on Tuesday. "There are plans to provide helicopters for the mega city policing. So when mega city policing project is complete, mega cities will have helicopters," Chidambaram told reporters after inaugurating the first of the four hubs of elite National Security Guard commandoes in Mumbai. "That is the way policing is done in cities like New York and London and other big cities," he said.

The Government had decided to set up these hubs after drawing a lesson from the delayed arrival of NSG team at Mumbai when terrorists struck on November 26 2008. The 23-acre hub located at Marol, a suburb in Andheri, is close to the Airport and with its operationalisation, the response time of the commando force in countering any terrorist action in the western region would be reduced "very significantly". Chidambaram will inaugurate similar hubs at Chennai and Hyderabad. Kolkata's [Images] NSG hub would also be inaugurated on Wednesday.

The Home Minister said the Maharashtra government has been raising a force called 'Force 1' which would receive training with the NSG. "As far as I know ... they are raising a force called 'Force 1' and that will also be trained in NSG headquarters. So some of the training that is imparted to NSG will also be imparted to Force 1 troops," Chidambaram said.

Chidamabaram said the hub in Mumbai does not mean it will cater to Mumbai only. "The hub in Mumbai does not mean that it will only serve Mumbai. It is a hub. It will cover entire Western India. It can fly as far as it is required in the event to fly. "We will establish the hubs so that all of India is eventually covered and you know we have already established special forces hub in Bengaluru [Images]. We are trying to locate one in Jodhpur [Images] ... in Guwahati. So these hubs of NSG and the armed forces are intended to cover the whole country," he said.

Chidambaram said that first responder to any terror strike is the state police. "...but in an anti-terrorist or an anti-hijacking situation, since NSG is a specialized force, I would expect the state police would call upon the NSG to assist ... The commander of the NSG hub in Mumbai will respond to a call from the state police authorities." he said.

When asked about the investigations of BBC in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, the Home Minister said, "Please understand a trial is going on. The matter is subjudice. None of us can comment on a matter which directly relates to the trial. BBC has a luxury of doing that but I do not have luxury of doing that."

About the reports of threat from the sea route, Chidambaram said that inputs have been shared with Goa [Images], Gujarat and Maharashtra but that did not mean there was any imminent threat. "...that is a normal practice. Intelligence inputs are shared with the states. That does not mean there is an imminent threat. That only means we must be aware of such an input and take preventive and pre-emptive measures in case such a threat materializes." "There is a comprehensive coastal security scheme. We have authorized a certain number of police stations, certain number of police posts, a large number of boats and that scheme is being implemented." he said. "It is an ongoing scheme. Once, the scheme is implemented coastal security would be stronger. We have set up a coastal command, we have made the navy the authority for coastal command. The coast guard is being placed as the instrument to implement the duties of coastal command," Chidambaram said

Guddu and Charlie are brothers, born and raised in Dharavi, the world's largest slum dwelling in the heart of the megalopolis, Mumbai.

They also happen to be identical twins, in early twenties, hoping to leave the squalor behind and move into a life of prosperity and dignity. But the similarity ends here.

Guddu works as a trainee in a small NGO firm in the city. He hopes to climb up to the top of the corporate ladder. He wants to be a bona fide member of the burgeoning Indian middle class. His career has only just begun though and the road to bourgeoisie is both long and arduous. Yet Guddu is at it. He is honest, diligent and careful. Especially careful.

Charlie makes a living hedging bets at the race course. He moves around the plush hordes of the rich and famous at the races. For him this is just a way to make quick money and he dreams of becoming a legitimate bookie one day. Charlie is street smart, wily and brave. And only for himself.

The brothers don't like each other. They believe they have nothing in common, not even their speech defect. While Guddu stammers, especially when he is nervous, Charlie has a lisp. The brothers have built their lives so that their paths don't ever cross. They believe it's only a question of time before they are out of each other's sight forever.

All that is about to change. In one day. A day of reckoning. An unusual day; just right for the unusual events that unfold in its course.

Charlie is having a bad day at the office. He has practically bet everything he possesses on a coveted derby race. But at the last minute, he is double crossed as the race is fixed in their opponent's favour. He hunts down the jockey and plans to get even when the rival goons burst in. In the ensuing melee, Charlie and friends take off with a getaway car. Not knowing that the car belongs to a ruthless pair of cops, LOBO and LELE, who run drugs for the beach lord, TASHI. Soon enough, Charlie discovers a stash of coke in the boot of the car. All hell now breaks loose as the cops and the drug mafia get after his case. Charlie has to survive. And by his wits alone.

Guddu is performing a street theater act when his new found girlfriend, Sweety BHOPE appears on the scene, distraught and announces that she is pregnant. Guddu is shocked at first but realizes quickly that there is no real problem. They can get married right away! They can't. There is a real problem. Sweety reveals her secret; her brother is Sunil 'chopper' Bhope. A Gangster with political ambitions. A ridiculously dangerous man. And he already knows. Sweety informs Guddu that as they speak, her brother's men are out for his blood.

The story unfolds as the day progresses. Intercut between the parallel stories of the brothers as they run to protect themselves, their dreams and their love. Until a point where it converges and the brothers meet to realize that they only have each other. It is only through trust in each other that they can get out of the mess that they haven't created. They uncover a deadly political-police-underworld nexus. They discover virtues within themselves they thought didn't exist. And most important of all, they find each other.

Sikh student attacked in Australia, attempt to cut his hair

In a fresh attack, a 22-year-old Sikh youth was assaulted by a group of teenagers who tried to remove his turban and cut his hair. Two of the attackers have been arrested.

Resham Singh 'was assaulted by a group of six teenagers. They tried to remove the turban of this youth and cut his hair', dailynews365.com reported Tuesday.

Singh said the group first abused him and left and again came back with more people and a pair of scissors. They tried to remove his turban and to cut his hair.

The incident took place Monday at the station in Dandenong, a Melbourne suburb. With this attack, the number of victims has risen to 19 since May 9.

Singh said: 'My friends tried to save me', adding the 'education agent back in India never gave me any information of how hard life will be here'.

A student of hospitality, Singh came from Punjab six months back to study in Australia.

Two of the attackers were arrested.

'The youths from Dandenong - aged 13 and 15 years - were charged with intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing serious injury and assault in company,' the report quoted a police spokesperson as saying.

Nearly 90,000 Indian students are studying in various Australian education institutions.

A series of attacks and robberies on Indian students had been highlighted prominently in the Indian media, which had led to statements of assurance on safety from the highest level of the Australian government.

BSNL to invest Rs 160cr in 23 Jharkhand cities

BSNL is investing around Rs 160 crore to bring 23 cities and towns of Jharkhand under the 3G mobile network in the next two to three months.

Jharkhand telecom circle chief general manager (CGM) Rakesh Kapur said BSNL will cover all the 23 district headquarters in the next three months.

Asked if customers wanting to switch over from 2G to 3G services had to replace their mobile sets, the CGM said most mobile handsets have some of the basic 3G functions in-built.

He, however, added that as 3G offered a wide range of services which included mobile TV, video and web access to name a few, there wasn't available a single handset which could be used for receiving all the 3G services on offer.

BSNL's 3G services in Jharkhand are initially to provide high-speed web services, streaming video, e-mail, mobile TV and MMS, while services like music downloading, m-gaming and blogging would follow.

The steel city on Saturday became the third city in Jharkhand after Ranchi and Dhandbad to launch 3G services and the 71st in the country to have the services, BSNL expects to bring 500 cities in the country under 3G by July 2009.

Asked how cheap 3G services could become in the future, Kapur said it would all depend on the number of subscribers.

Although 3G services were new, the technology uses more than 70% of the existing infrastructure to function.

"I personally believe we are showing the way and many players would enter and compete later on," said Kapur, when asked if BSNL would have an edge in the 3G competition for having entered early.

BSNL is also preparing to launch the CDMA-based WiMAX network for rural areas of the state to facilitate e-governance. BSNL is supposed to give WiMAX connectivity to around 4,500 panchayats in the state in 2009-10.

Vaughan Announced His retirement From immediate Effect

Michael Vaughan has confirmed at a press conference in Edgbaston that he is to retire from all forms of professional cricket with immediate effect. He departs the international scene as England's most successful Test captain of all time - with 26 wins from his 51 matches in charge.

His achievements also include leading England to their first Ashes victory against Australia for 18 years in 2005; a first Test series win in South Africa for forty years - also in 2005 - and presiding over eight consecutive Test wins in 2004.

As a batsman, he scored 18 Test hundreds for England following his debut in 1999 and was ranked the number one batsman in the world following the 2002-03 Ashes in Australia in which he made 633 runs including three centuries.

Vaughan said: "After a great deal of consideration, I've decided that now is the right time to retire from cricket. It has been an enormous privilege to have played for and captained my country and this is one of the hardest decisions I have had to make.

"Playing cricket has been my life for 16-17 years, so to hand it over without a chance to play again is hard," he said. "I've given it my best shot, I wanted to give it one last hard effort to get into the Ashes squad, but I haven't been playing well enough and my body hasn't been holding up. But this is where my life starts, so it's an exciting time for me."

"I'd like to record my sincere thanks to the England fans and the ECB and the members and supporters of Yorkshire County Cricket Club for their unstinting backing throughout my career as well as my wife Nicola and the rest of my family who have been equally supportive."

"I'm also extremely grateful to all of the players, managers, coaches, media and administrators I've worked with, who have all contributed to making my career so enjoyable and fulfilling.

"I'd also like to wish Andrew Strauss and the current England team success in this Ashes series. I know they have the drive, ambition and abilities to repeat the success from 2005. Winning that series was most definitely the highpoint of my career, because we not only won the series, but captured the nation, which cricket hasn't done for a long, long time."

"I want to be remembered as a nice player on the eye to watch, and as someone who gave my all. I leave with no regrets. I captained with an instinctive nature and I was fortunate to lead a determined team that played with an aggressive style."

Hugh Morris, the managing director of England cricket, said: "As an international captain Michael ranks among the very best and the way in which he and Duncan Fletcher forged a team capable of winning six consecutive Test series stands as testament to his ability to inspire and motivate those around him.

"He was also a marvellous ambassador for England cricket off-the-field as well as on it and someone who genuinely appreciated the generous support he received from the thousands of England supporters who follow the team at home and abroad. No-one who saw his magnificent hundreds in Australia in 2002-03 will forget the contribution he made to the team as a batsman either - he will be rightly remembered as a player of the highest class."

England's captain, Andrew Strauss said: "I count Michael as a good friend as well as a team-mate and I know what a tough decision this will have been for him as he took so much pleasure and pride in representing his country.

"I learned a great deal from watching him captain the side for five years at close hand and his ability to identify a new strategy for outwitting the opposition or bring the best out of his own players was a priceless asset.

"But more than anything we as players will miss the enormous sense of fun and enjoyment that Michael brought to the dressing room. He will be missed by everyone connected with the team and we wish him every success in his future career."

Yorkshire's chief executive, Stewart Regan, said: "Michael Vaughan is a class act and will be remembered by Yorkshire members and supporters around the world for his beautiful stroke play and of course his success in leading England to Ashes glory in 2005.

"It has been a pleasure and a privilege for me to get to know Michael over the past three years and his presence around the club has been hugely motivational, particularly the younger players.

"I wish him every success in the future and hope that he continues to take more than a passing interest in the fortunes of Yorkshire CCC. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to personally thank him for his magnificent contribution not only to Yorkshire but to the game of cricket as a whole."

Bandra Worli sea link, Sonia Gandhi to inaugurate today

Mumbai: Congress president Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate the much-awaited Bandra Worli sea link here today.

The 5.6 kilometers long cable-stayed bridge has been designed to allow for speedy road travel between Bandra and Worli in the busy and traffic-ridden city of Mumbai.

The link would be equipped with state-of-the-art systems for traffic monitoring, emergency support and an automated toll system.

It is an ambitious eight-lane twin carriageway built over the Mahim Creek of Arabian Sea. The bridge rests on two towers, each 126 metres tall or equivalent to a 43-storeyed building.

Spectacular fireworks enthralled the residents, a day before the opening of the link, which will facilitate rapid conveyance from Mumbai's west to south.

"I just loved this event that is happening here. The fireworks were just amazing, I loved to watch it," said Neelam Mansi, a resident.

People said that the new bridge would save a lot of commuting time.

"The construction of the sea link would save people's time," said Leen Montri, another resident.

Freight train derails, fire kills 13 in Italy

A train derailed and set off an explosion and fire in the middle of a small Italian town, killing at least 13 people — many as they slept in their homes — officials said Tuesday. More than 50 people were injured, many severely.

The rear of the freight train plowed into a residential neighborhood beside the rail station in the Tuscan seaside town of Viareggio shortly before midnight Monday, and a car filled with liquefied natural gas exploded, collapsing at least two buildings and setting fire to a vast area.

Some 300 firefighters were digging through the rubble of collapsed or burnt homes looking for casualties, amid fears that there could be more victims. As the firefighters worked to contain the blaze, teams specialized in dealing with nuclear, biological and chemical threats were being brought in to prevent the other gas tanks from exploding.

Officials said the fire was contained after several hours, but a smell of burning hung in the air.

"We saw a ball of fire rising up to the sky," said witness Gianfranco Bini, who lives in a building overlooking the station. "We heard three big rumbles, like bombs. It looked like war had broken out."

Some of the victims, including a child, were killed in their homes by the collapses or the fire, said Raffaele Gargiulo, a police spokesman in the nearby city of Lucca, which is in charge of the smaller town of Viareggio. Two drivers who were on the road alongside the tracks when the train derailed were also killed.

Others suffered severe burns and died at the hospital.

"The condition of the bodies is such that it will be very difficult to identify them," Gargiulo said.

The death toll stood at 13 by Tuesday morning, said Gennaro Tornatore, a spokesman for the firefighters. But he said the number of victims might rise as rescue teams searched through the rubble.

Lucca's top government official, Prefect Carmelo Aronica, told Italy's RAI state TV that at least 50 people were injured, 35 of whom were hospitalized with severe burns. The ANSA news agency reported that three children were pulled alive from the rubble of their collapsed home shortly before daybreak Tuesday.

About 1,000 people were evacuated from their homes as a precaution, town hall officials said. Tents were put up in the area around the town hall.

Videos uploaded on YouTube showed a huge plume of fire and smoke towering above Viareggio's low houses. Images from the scene showed an inferno raging in the night, consuming buildings and cars, while the sound of sirens and explosions pierced the air.

"It's an impressive scene, there are dozens and dozens of cars hit by the shock wave and collapsed houses," said firefighters spokesman Luca Cari.

The 14-car train carrying the liquefied gas was traveling from the northern city of La Spezia to Pisa.

The train's two engineers were only lightly injured and were questioned in the hospital, saying they felt an impact some 650 feet (200 meters) outside the station, shortly before the rear of the train flew off the tracks, Gargiulo said.

He told The Associated Press by telephone that the incident may have been caused by damage to the tracks or by a problem with the train's braking system.

Bodies recovered in Yemeni plane crash

Airbus A310-300 from Yemen with 153 people on board, including 66 French nationals, crashed into choppy seas as it tried to land in bad weather on the Indian Ocean archipelago of Comoros on Tuesday, officials said.

An official from the state carrier Yemenia said some bodies had been recovered from the wreck. The official could not say whether there were any survivors.

Paris Airport said there were 66 French nationals aboard.

Two French military planes and a French ship left the Indian Ocean islands of Mayotte and Reunion to search for the Yemenia aircraft that was carrying nationals from France and Comoros.

"The planes have seen debris at the supposed point of impact," Ibrahim Kassim, an official from regional air security body ASECNA, told Reuters.

A Yemenia official said there were 142 passengers, including three infants, and 11 crew. The plane was flying from Sanaa to Moroni, the capital of the main island of the archipelago.

"We still do not have information about the reason behind the crash or survivors," Mohammad al-Sumairi, deputy general manager for Yemenia operations told Reuters.

"The weather conditions were rough; strong wind and high seas. The wind speed recorded on land at the airport was 61 km (38 miles) an hour. There could be other factors," he said.

It is the second Airbus to plunge into the sea this month. An Air France Airbus A330-200 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean killing 228 people on board on June 1.

In 1996, a hijacked Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 767 also crashed into the sea off the Comoros islands in 1996, killing 125 of 175 passengers and crew.

FRENCH SEARCH

"Two French military aircraft have left from the islands of Mayotte and Reunion to search the identified zone, and a French vessel has left Mayotte," said Hadji Madi Ali, director General of Moroni International Airport.

France and the Comoros have enjoyed close ties since the islands' independence in 1975. The French Foreign Ministry estimates 200,000 people from Comoros live in mainland France.

Remittances from France are an important part of the islands' economy.

"We think the crash is somewhere along its landing approach," said Kassim from ASECNA. "The weather is really not very favorable. The sea is very rough."

ASECNA -- the Agency for Aviation Security and Navigation in Africa and Madagascar -- covers Francophone Africa.

Interior Minister Hamid Bourhane told Reuters the army had sent small speedboats to an area between the village of Ntsaoueni and the airport.

A medical worker from the town of Mitsamiouli on the main island Grande Comore said he had been called in.

"They have just called me to come to the hospital. They said a plane had crashed," he told Reuters.

A United Nations official at the airport, who declined to be named, said the control tower had received notification the plane was coming into land, and then lost contact with it.

Yemenia is 51 percent owned by the Yemeni government and 49 percent owned by the Saudi Arabian government. Its fleet includes two Airbus 330-200s, four Airbus 310-300s and four Boeing 737-800s, according to the company website.

The Comoros covers three small volcanic islands, Grande Comore, Anjouan and Moheli, in the Mozambique channel, 300 km (190 miles) northwest of Madagascar and a similar distance east of the African mainland.

‘Rakhi Ka Swayamvar’ Goes On Air On NDTV Imagine

"Rakhi Ka Swayamvar" went on air Monday on NDTV Imagine and Rakhi's subtle and graceful gestures was a complete contrast to what the audience knows her to be.

From the moment the show began when host, actor Ram Kapoor introduced the concept as well as the bride-to-be to the time when Rakhi herself welcomed 16 prospective grooms to the Fateh Garh Palace in Udaipur.

She was not her usual self despite promising the world that "Rakhi Ka Swayamvar" would show her "real" self.

From small-time actors, a police officer, a sales manager, an NRI businessman to engineers, an advocate, a student, a marriage consultant, a stunt artist and even a choreographer, Rakhi has a genre of grooms to choose her partner from. Rakhi will choose her perfect man with the help of viewers.

The 16 grooms, who have come from cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bulandshahr, Hrishikesh, Jaipur, Kanpur and Srinagar and even from far-flung places like Toronto, made every attempt to impress the lady in their unique styles.

While some came with gifts like a wedding dress, a teddy bear, a bangle, etc, a few tried to impress Rakhi with their Urdu couplets (shayari) in the first episode itself.

But the selection of the final candidate will be decided based on many parameters. The contenders will be put through a series of challenges that will test their personality, character, physical fitness, talent and also their compatibility with Rakhi.

All through the series, viewers can help Rakhi decide, by voting for or against the prospective grooms and the final week will present the wedding celebrations.

'Rakhi Ka Swaymamvar' is being telecast every Monday-Friday at 9 pm on NDTV Imagine.

Bhupathi And Knowles Reach Quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2009

India's Mahesh Bhupathi and Bahamas’ Mark Knowles entered the quarter-finals of the Wimbledon men's doubles with a 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-0 win over India's Prakash Amritraj and Pakistan's Qureshi.

Fourth seeded Bhupathi and Knowles took the first set, breaking their unseeded opponents twice.

Prakash and Qureshi came back strongly, breaking Knowles serve in the 12th game to make it a set-all.

The keenly fought third set went with on serve before Prakash and Qureshi had a set point in the 12th game, again in Knowles serve. This time, however, Knowles and Bhupathi wriggled out of the tight spot and then dominated the tie-break.

Bhupathi and Knowles were in full control in the fourth set and were leading 4-0 when rain stopped the play. They came back to blank Prakash and Qureshi and win the match that went almost three hours.

This is the second time Bhupathi and Knowles stopped an Indians run in men's doubles. They had earlier beaten Somdev Devvarman and South African Kevin Anerson.

How the Budget could hit your stocks

The Budget is expected to contain measures to accelerate growth while being fiscally prudent.

The Union Budget 2009-10, to be presented on July 6, will be notable in more ways than one.

With the United Progressive Alliance getting a reasonably strong mandate in the May 2009 elections and the absence of major opposition from alliance partners, the market is expecting the Budget to announce bold measures to enhance economic growth in an 'inclusive' manner as well as introduce structural reforms.

Tribute to Michael Jackson at awards show

Stars have been celebrating the life of Michael Jackson in Los Angeles.

Jackson's father Joe joined celebrities at the annual Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards show, which was hastily changed to honour the singer.

It is the first big tribute to Jackson, who collapsed and died last week in the city at the age of 50.

His family insisted a second autopsy be carried out on his body because of what they said were "unanswered questions" over how he died.

Speaking on the red carpet, Joe Jackson said he had "a lot of concerns" over events surrounding his son's death.

Joe Jackson attends award ceremony

The Los Angeles County Coroner's office has ruled out foul play but deferred giving a cause of death until the results of toxicology tests come back.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the singer had been taking a daily dose of Demerol, a painkiller also widely known as pethidine.

On Saturday police carried out what they said was an extensive interview with Jackson's personal doctor, Conrad Murray, who was with the singer when he died.

A spokeswoman for Dr Murray said he was not a suspect in the case. He had "helped identify the circumstances around the death of the pop icon and clarified some inconsistencies", she said.

New Honduran leader sets curfew

Interim President Roberto Micheletti has imposed an overnight curfew in Honduras, hours after being sworn in.

The Congress speaker took office after troops ousted elected leader Manuel Zelaya and flew him to Costa Rica.

The removal of Mr Zelaya came amid a power struggle over his plans for constitutional change.

Mr Zelaya, who had been in office since 2006, wanted to hold a referendum that could have led to an extension of his non-renewable four-year term.

Polls for the referendum had been due to open early on Sunday - but troops instead took him from the presidential palace and flew him out of the country.

New Honduran President Roberto Micheletti
Roberto Micheletti will govern until elections are held, Congress said.

The ousting of Manuel Zelaya has been criticised by regional neighbours, the US and the United Nations.

The BBC's Stephen Gibbs, reporting from the Honduran capital Tegucigalpa, said roads were deserted and only a handful of protesters remained on the streets.

Many Hondurans say there is a total lack of information about what has happened to their country and their president, our correspondent adds.

Federer v Soderling - Preview, Wimbledon 2009

Last year’s Wimbledon rematch of the French Open Final took place on the final day of The Championships. It was a match that upset the tennis world order and things haven’t been the same since. Rafael Nadal’s victory ended Roger Federer’s five-year domination at the All England Club, and it set in train a series of events that led to Nadal usurping Federer as the world No.1 and much more.

Monday’s French Open final rematch between Federer and Robin Soderling could upset the tennis world order even more...but only if Soderling wins. Since winning at Roland Garros and given his serene progress through the draw so far, Federer is being inked in by many as the 2009 champion.

Federer has never lost to the Swede in 10 encounters but, then again, Soderling knows something about springing a surprise. To reach the French Open final, he became the only man ever to beat Nadal at Roland Garros.

“If you asked me before Paris, I would say he's definitely more dangerous on grass than on clay, but then you saw all those great matches he played in Paris and you're worried, too,” Federer said.

”So he's definitely proven his point that he's a good all‑around player. I haven't actually thought about the match at all yet. But I think it's going to be interesting to see how he's going to enter that match after coping with such a long tournament in Paris and see how fresh he still is. But I've played him here in the past, and I've played him on grass a few times now.

“I've had success against him, but I know the danger because he hits extremely hard.”

This is uncharted territory at Wimbledon for Soderling, who will take heart from having beaten Nadal at the French Open.

He said: “Maybe it's the same challenge. It's very tough to beat Rafa on clay, and it's as tough to beat Roger on grass. But I made it once. We'll see. It's going to be a tough match, for sure.”

Soderling has never made it to the fourth round of Wimbledon before, but until Paris three weeks ago, he had never been in the final of an outdoor tournament. If the roof is closed over Centre Court and Soderling is technically indoors, could he upset the tennis world order again?

V. Williams v Ivanovic - Preview, Wimbledon 2009

Ana Ivanovic has got her head up just at the moment, and she’s feeling increasingly confident, despite making heavy going of her first match against Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic. She reckons she has got a fair chance in her fourth round match against defending champion and third seed, Venus Williams.

And if appearances were to be believed, 13th seed Ana could be forgiven. Venus has had her left leg taped up for most of the week. But she has been teasing the press about it, batting away any thought of injury, insisting that it’s just comfortable and supportive.

She joked: “I was thinking maybe I could get a permanent one. So maybe you'll see me with one that's neoprene and Velcro and all that good stuff. You never know.”

Maybe it is a new fashion item, because it certainly has not hampered her performance as she has swept cleanly through her first three rounds without dropping a set.

Their head-to-head record is 5-1 in 29-year-old Venus’s favour, but their only meeting on grass was here at Wimbledon in the 2007 semi-finals, which Venus won in straight sets, before going on to win The Championships. What Venus remembers of her encounter with the Serb is that “we had a lot of great exchanges. I just remember playing aggressively”.

She said: “Obviously she's talented. I think this is a good surface for her; as far as her game [goes], she does everything well.”

And Ana has been watching Roger Federer to pick up tips playing on grass, and feels it suits her game. The 21- year-old has already said she is playing better tennis than ever before, even compared to when she was ranked number one in the world, 12 months ago.

She’s now playing ranked at No. 12, and is relishing the encounter with Venus. That last time, Ana said, “was the only time we played on the grass, and it's so different. She likes to go for her first shot. She likes to dominate the points. I just think I have to try to make a lot of returns. And ,obviously, it's going to be important for me to serve well in that match because she has great first serves. So if I can hold on to my serve and then put pressure on her, that would be a key.”

Ana continued: “She's very dangerous opponent, but I think I have a great chance, and I feel very comfortable going in that match. I'm so excited to have opportunity for that challenge."

It would be good for Venus to have some stiff opposition, so let’s hope Ana is playing as her recently mature and newly-focused self.

Jaguar in India at Rs 63 L, Tata Launch Luxury Car

Three months after launching Nano, the world's most inexpensive family vehicle at the Rs.1 lakh, Tata Motors Sunday launched here the iconic Jaguar and Land Rover cars, to cost between Rs.63 lakh and Rs.92 lakh in India.

Tata Motors chairman Ratan Tata said initially, three Jaguar and two Land Rover models would be available in the country.

While Jaguar models will be available in the price band of Rs.63-92 lakh, the Land Rover will be in the Rs.63-89 lakh range. They will be available in five-six cities after checking out the response in Mumbai.

'Finance options will be available from Tata Motors,' Tata said, adding: 'I think the cars will exhibit the levels of technology and levels of performance here.'

'The Indian market holds significant growth potential in the long term, and we hope to tap the demand for premium vehicles from discerning customers,' Jaguar-Land Rover chief executive David Smith said.

Land Rover managing director Phil Popham declined to spell out the numbers the company was looking at. 'Both Jaguar and Land Rover are premium, niche and exclusive brands. We are looking at relative small numbers. The challenge is to establish the brands here,' he said.

The company has invested over 800 million pounds to make the vehicle more eco-friendly with features like aluminium body and reduced carbon-dioxide emissions.

Tata Motors acquired Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford Motor Co for $2.3 billion in March last year.

Ironically, Tata Motors posted a net loss of over Rs.2,500 crore last fiscal mainly on account of this acquisition, apart from the economic crisis that has hit the auto sector globally.

West Indies Beat India By 8 Wickets In 2nd ODI

West Indies beat India by 8 wickets in the second one-day international to level the series 1-1 at Sabina Park on Sunday.
The game was dominated by West Indies from the beginning. A gritty 95 from skipper MS Dhoni and his defiant 101-run ninth-wicket stand with RP Singh helped pull India out of a rut and reach a decent 188 after being 82/8.

On a pitch that produced more than 600 runs barely 2 days ago, the Windies new ball bowlers looked a lot more dangerous with recalled Ravi Rampaul (4/37), Jerome Taylor (3/35),and Dwayne Bravo (3/26) hitting the deck to make the ball bounce.

The three bowlers ran amok and the Indian innings never looked like taking off. Yuvraj showed some heroics for a brief period. But he was dismissed for 35 runs off 33 balls.

Dhoni, playing a real captain's innings, inspired RP Singh (23 runs) to stay with him and the two gave their side something to bowl at and save them from an embarrassing collapse. He batted purposefully, protecting RP Singh to start with and then allowed him to gain in confidence. India finished at 188.

West Indies replied stronglt with Gayle scoring 64 off 46 balls. Morton scored 85 runs. The openers scored a century-run partnership for the opening wicket.

Ravi Rampaul, who took 4 wickets for 37 runs, was declared Man of the Match.

Brief scores

India: 188 in 48.2 overs (Dhoni 95, Yuvraj 35, RP Singh 23, Rampaul 4/37, Taylor 3/35, Dwayne Bravo 3/26).
West Indies: 192/2 in 34.1 overs (Chris Gayle 64, Runako Morton 85, Rohit Sharma 2/27).

Two more Indians assaulted in Sydney

A television channel report said that police were called in at 4 a.m. on Sunday. They were told that the two Australian teenagers struck the two Indian friends on their heads with glass beer bottles.

The Indians, both aged 20, were taken to a Sydney Hospital where they were treated for bruising and minor lacerations, before being discharged.

The police have arrested the two Australian youngsters after a short foot pursuit. The accused, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old were both charged with two counts of assault causing bodily harm in company of others at Sydney's City Central Police Station.

A number of items have been seized for forensic examination. Police also spoke with a number of witnesses.

Brazil Beat USA 3-2 In Confederations Cup Final

Brazil came from behind to score a 3-2 victory over USA to win the Confederations Cup finals at Johannesburg. Lucio scored a goal in the 84th minute to give the five-time world champions a win over a resurgent US team.
The US had taken a 2-0 lead at halftime. Dempsey and Donovan scored a goal each to give the American team a good lead. But Fabiano scored two goals in the second half to put Brazil back in contention. Earlier, Dempsey gave the US the lead in the 10th minute. Donovan added the second goal in the 27th minute.

The Americans had a chance to upset Brazil. But Fabiano rose to the occasion and scored his fourth goal of the tournament in the 46th minute as he collected a pass from Ramires. Fabiano repeated his feat in the 74th minute as he scored his fifth goal of the tournament to give his team the equaliser. The lead was given by Lucio as he headed a corner kick from Elano in the 84th minute.

This goal prevented an upset result. Brazil upped the game superbly in the second half after being under a lot of pressure at halftime. Meanwhile Spain defeated South Africa 3-2 in extra time in the third place play off in Rustenburg.

India-NZ to play tri-series in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Cricket on Friday confirmed that India and New Zealand will play a triangular series along with the hosts during the Kiwis' tour in August.

The tri-series was "agreed with the Chairman, Secretary, Board of Cricket Control in India and the Chief Executive, New Zealand Cricket at discussions held with the Chairman and Secretary, SLC during their visit to the UK," a statement from Sri Lanka Cricket said on Friday.

India had been considering playing the series as it would provide them with crucial match practice ahead of the Champions Trophy in South Africa in September.

India are currently in the West Indies playing their last series before a lengthy break from competitive cricket.

With the New Zealand's tour for Test matches not expected to generate much public interest, India's inclusion for the one-dayers was welcomed by SLC, which would create great commercial interest.

"SLC would like to express its appreciation to the officials of BCCI for agreeing on an unscheduled tour, which would add an additional commercial benefit to the stakeholders of SLC, moreover a viewing pleasure to the cricket loving public in Sri Lanka," the release added.

Sri Lanka Cricket would release the schedule at a later date

Tommy Haas and Cilic locked in thriller

A four-hour marathon on No.1 Court was suspended in the gathering darkness at 9.33pm with Marin Cilic and Tommy Haas standing level at 5-7, 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) 6-6 in the final set. By the time they were forced to give in to the failing light, both men had saved two match points in an encounter that swung unpredictably this way and that.
Early on this match looked like being an unmitigated disaster for Haas, 31. The 11-year age gap between the players yawned as 20-year-old Cilic blasted away from the baseline. The German was obliged to save two break points to prevent a 0-4 scoreline. But he managed it, inching his way on to the scoreboard at 1-3.

Openings were few for him, even on his own serve, and he also produced double faults at the most unwelcome moments. But he hung on and stayed in touch, although for what seemed a long time he could make no impression on the Cilic serve.

Then Haas held to love for the first time for 5-3, and the one-time world number two seemed to take heart from it. Next game a netcord helped save a Cilic set point, and then suddenly a double fault from the Croatian handed his opponent a thoroughly unexpected break point.

Crucially Haas got the first serve back, and in the subsequent rally Cilic put a potential winner wide. It was 5-5. Haas was gaining confidence visibly, typified by a beautifully judged lob. Meanwhile, errors were creeping into Cilic’s game at exactly the wrong time. Haas forced a break point for 6-5 with an unreturnable forehand, and not only converted it, but served out to love. Out of nowhere, it seemed, he had won the set.

Haas managed to carry enough momentum with him into the second set that he avoided the disastrous opening period of the first. It was sufficiently hard work that that at 3-3 he uttered what sounded very much like an audible obscenity when fluffing a shot on Cilic’s serve, but he received no warning.

A tiebreak looked inevitable until just as before, out of the blue the set turned. At 5-5 Haas found himself with a break point and controlled the rally superbly to convert it. Cilic saved three set points at 5-6 but a fourth was too much and Haas took the set.

Perhaps it was finally beginning to show that Cilic – seeded for the first time this Wimbledon – came into the tournament with no grasscourt form, having lost in the first round at Queen’s. Haas, meanwhile, arrived in SW19 as the newly-crowned champion on the lawns of Halle, having overturned the odds there to defeat Novak Djokovic in the final. Yet still the pattern of this match this evening felt like a shock.

But to vocal encouragement from the very visible Croatian support in the crowd, Cilic broke at the start of the third. He was five games up before Haas could stop the rot but it made no difference. Cilic sent down successive aces to capture the set 6-1.

At the start of the fourth set Haas was moving stiffly, and seemed to be having discomfort in his left foot. But as far as the score was concerned he was back on track. At 5-4 on serve Haas had two separate match points, but could do nothing with either and the set went to the tiebreak. Cilic took command of it and the match moved into the fifth.

By now Haas was tiring, and the 11-year age gap was beginning to show for real. Cilic broke at the first opportunity and got to 3-0 before the match turned again and Haas pegged him back to 3-3. Once again Cilic broke, and once again Haas levelled.

At 5-6, in the last game of the night before play would have had to be suspended in any case, suddenly Cilic at last found a way through again to grab two separate match points, and this time Haas saved both to leave the match on a knife-edge at 6-6.

Serena beat Roberta Vinci storms into fourth round

Serena Williams took the new No.2 Court by storm today as she played her 200th Grand Slam match and reached the fourth round at Wimbledon with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Roberta Vinci of Italy.

There were one or two minor faults in the Williams display but largely she was well in control of affairs and left the 53rd ranked Italian chasing in her slipstream. It was often spectacular stuff, with the Italian prepared to try anything to slow Serena down but being unable to do so for long.

Serena is twice champion of Wimbledon, twice runner-up, and her aim this week is to put in all the groundwork required to go through to the final where, most likely, her sister Venus will await.

Williams hit 10 aces and more than twice as many winners as Vinci who was often forced on to the back foot but never became totally despondent. Considering the weight of shot that was against her, she was satisfied to break the Williams serve twice, once in each set.

Vinci had no such luck with her own serve and lost it twice in a row at the start of the match. This immediately put her out of contention in the first set, which Williams took after 29 minutes.

The Italian now needed to boost her confidence but she dropped her serve to love at the start of the second set when Williams hit two forehand winners and a backhand service return winner to extend her lead.

Williams did lose serve in the sixth game when she double faulted twice and, after being 0-30 down two games later, served three aces as well as a drive volley that scorched the turf.

The match ended in 67 minutes when Williams served her final ace for victory.

Federer loses focus but no big shocks

Roger Federer dropped a set and it didn’t rain on Wimbledon Day 5. The rain had been forecast, the dropped set had not.
At the start of the day, the weather forecast had predicted a 40% chance of heavy rain. But few people would have expected Philipp Kohlschreiber to get anything from his match against Federer given that he had lost in straight sets to the Swiss in three previous meetings.

There was not a drop of rain but Kohlschreiber gave Federer a contest 6-3, 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1.

“I thought the rhythm was very high. We played a lot of tough points. I really thought from my side it was an excellent match,” Federer said.

“You also need the opponent to come up also with the goods to make it an exciting match, and I thought it was. Sure, I would have loved to win in straight sets, but he came back strong.

“Maybe my serve let go just a little bit. But he started to pick side a lot as well and took the right decisions at the right time and deserved the third set in the end.”

This was Federer’s 15th successive victory, his longest winning streak since the summer of 2007 when he won 18 matches in a row. He will break his personal record if he wins Wimbledon, as if he needed more motivation.

So another beautiful day at the 2009 Championships spelled another round of routine victories for the majority of seeds, including Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic and Elena Dementieva.

Williams and Dementieva were particularly impressive in their wins. Williams hit 10 aces and more than twice as many winners as Roberta Vinci in her 6-3, 6-4 win. Regina Kulikova made three times more errors than Dementieva, which explains the 6-1, 6-2 scoreline in the fourth seed’s favour.

The only defeats of note were ninth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and 15th seed Tommy Robredo in the men’s draw and Marion Bartoli, the 12th seed and 2007 finalist, and 15th seed Dominika Cibulkova in the ladies’. The ladies’ seventh seed Vera Zvonareva withdrew because of injury.

Gisela Dulko, the woman who upset former champion Maria Sharpova in the previous round, was beaten in three sets by 10th seed Nadia Petrova.

Federer refuses to speculate about possible opponents, but if he did he would have an eye on both Djokovic and Ivo Karlovic, who beat Tsonga in four sets.

Djokovic, the fourth seed, produced a competent 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Mardy Fish. “Today I performed the best match so far in Wimbledon, which is really encouraging for continuation of the tournament. The more matches I play, match after match I play better, which is always a positive fact.”

Karlovic beat Tsonga by virtue of his huge serve. The tallest player on the ATP Tour served 46 aces in his 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) win and did not give the Frenchman a break point opportunity all match. However, it was not until the 38th game of the match that Karlovic converted his only break point of the match. Plenty for Federer to think about.

Nokia N97 review, Price on Retail Sale in India

The price of this phone might head southwards in the not too distant future

Nokia's recently launched flagship N-Series touchscreen device, the N97 will retail in India at a price of Rs. 36,119. The phone was, until recently, available through pre-order and it is only now that Nokia has revealed the exact retail pricing of the device. The pricing of the device puts it in the league of the iPhone 3G and the likes. However, it remains to be seen if the demand for the phone sees a dip, now that the actual pricing has been revealed.

The price of Rs.36,119, however, does not come as a surprise as it was expected that the N97 would be priced at around the 35K mark. In fact, in review of the handset, we had made this fact clear as well. The saving grace of the N97 is that unlike the iPhone, which has more or less remained in the same price range ever since launch, the price of this phone might head southwards in the not too distant future.

The N97 runs Series 60 Fifth Edition OS and comes loaded with novel features. If you think you can't afford the phone at this price, but are desperate to get one, you have two options. Participate in the Nokia N97 contest (which unfortunately has now ended) or buy it on EMIs. That's correct! Nokia has tied up with HDFC Bank and Citibank to provide a three month EMI option to consumers in select Nokia Branded Retail outlets in select cities. So, there you go! Are you getting one?

ICC not allowed neutral venue 2011 Cricket World Cup Cricket

The ICC has ruled out the shifting of Pakistan’s share of world cup matches to a neutral venue. It has said that the 14 matches would be held in other three co-host nations; India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.

ICC refused to give Pakistan its share of matches in a board meeting in London. It has also ruled out the idea of a neutral venue. The Central Organising Committee has been asked to meet soon and suggest venues for the 14 matches within the other three nations. David Morgan, ICC President, said that the neutral venue option was discussed at first but was ruled out eventually. He added that commercial board of ICC needs a recommendation from four nations, about the locations of those matches.

China Banned Google of spreading pornography

China's government accused Google Inc. on Thursday of spreading pornography after Chinese Internet users were temporarily unable to gain access to the U.S. search giant's main Web site or China-based service.

"We have found that the English version of google.com has spread lots of pornographic, lewd and vulgar content, which is in serious violation of Chinese laws and regulations," said foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang.

He said authorities "summoned representatives of Google.com in China and urged them to remove the content immediately.

" Qin, speaking at a regular briefing, did not respond to questions about whether China's government was blocking Web users from seeing Google's site. However, he said he hoped the problem can be "resolved immediately.

" Google said Thursday it was investigating the reason for the outage, which began late Wednesday. Chinese users were blocked from seeing Google's U.S. site, its China-based site google.

cn and its Gmail e-mail service. A Chinese watchdog agency accused Google last week of providing links to vulgar and obscene sites.

Google, based in Mountainview, California, said it would do more to stop users in China from accessing pornography. "I would like to stress that Google.

com, as an Internet enterprise providing services in China, should earnestly abide by all Chinese laws," Qin said. "All the punitive measures adopted by the relevant authorities are conducted strictly according to law.

" The Chinese agency that oversees the Internet, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. China has the world's largest population of Internet users at more than 298 million.

The communist government has the world's most extensive Web monitoring and filtering system, and it regularly blocks access to foreign Web sites. Authorities launched a crackdown this year that led to the closing of more than 1,900 porn-related Web sites.

Google has struggled to expand in China, where it says it has about 30 percent of the search market. The company launched Google.

cn with a Chinese partner after seeing its market share erode as government filters slowed access to its U.S. service.

Jab dosti ki dastaan waqt sunayega

Jab dosti ki dastaan waqt sunayega,
Tumko bhi koi shaks yaad ayega,
Tab bhool jaoge zindgi ke gam ko,
Jab hamare sath guzara waqt yaad ayega.
Majnu ko Laila ka SMS nahi aaya
Usne teen dino se khana nahi khaya.
Woh marne wala hai Laila ke pyar mein,
Aur Laila baithi hai SMS free hone ke intezar mein.
Sabne kaha Dosti ek Dard hai,
Humne kaha Dard kabool hai,
Subne kaha is Dard ke saath Ji nahi paoge,
Humne kaha teri Dosti ke saath marna kabool hai
SMS karenge hum ek duje ko bari bari,
Hame Lagti hai yeh rasm badi pyari,
Yeh sms milte hi ek sms bhej dena,
Kyunki hame bilkul pasand nahi udhari.
Teri berukhi ko bhi rutba diya humne
Pyar ka har farz ada kiya humne
Mat soach ki hum bhool gaye hain tujhe
Aaj bhi khud se pehle tujhe yaad kiya humne
Kasur na unka hai na mera,
Hum dono hi rishton ki rasme nibhate rahe,
Woh dosti ka ehsaas jatate rahe,
Hum mohabbat ko dil mein chupate rahe.
Sitaron se agey jahan aur bhi hain,
Abhi Mohabbat k imthan aur bhi hain,
Tumhi nahi jalati mere dil ko,
College mein Ladkiyan aur bhi hain
Her baat samjhane ke liye nahi hoti,
Zindagi hamesha paane ke liye nahi hoti
Yaad to har pal aati hai apki magar,
Har yaad jatane ke liye nahi hoti.
Jab bhi kisi ko kareeb paya hai,
Kasam khuda ki wahin dhokha khaya hai.
Kyon dosh de hum kaanto ko,
Zakham to humne phulo se paaya hai.
Ek jaam ulfat ke naam, ek jaam mohabat ke naam
Ek jaam wafa ke naam, puri botal bewafa ke naam,
Aur pura theka doston ke naam!
Na jaane tum pe itna yakin kyon hai
Tera khayal bhi itna haseen kyon hai
Suna hai Pyar ka dard meetha hota hai
To ankh se nikla ye aansu namkeen kyon hai
Kitne jaldi yeh mulakat guzar jati hai
Pyas bujhti nahin ki barsat guzar jati hai
Apni yadon se keho ki yun na sataya kare
Neend aati nahin aur raat guzar jati hai
Kabra ki mitti utha ke le gaya koi
Isi bahane humein choo gaya koi
Tanhai aur andhere mein khush they hum
Lekin phir se intezar karne ki wajah de gaya koi
Daag ansuon se dhoye hain,
Jab bhi tanha huye hain roye hain,
Dil mein kyon na uge yaad teri,
Dil mein tere hi khawab boye hain.
Teri doori ka ehsaas jab satane laga
Tere sath guzra har lamha yaad aane laga
Jab bhi bhulane ki koshish ki
Tu dil ke aur karib aane laga
Karoge yad ek din is pyar ke zamane ko
Chale jayenge jab hum kabhi na vapas aane ko
Chalega mehfil me jab zikr hamara koi
To tum bhi tanhai dhundoge ansu bahane ko
Faaslon ne dil ki qurbaton ko badha dia hai
Aaj uski yad ne besabab rula dia hai
Usko shikwa hai k muje yad nahi ati
Jiski yad mein khud ko bhula dia hai.
Sabhi ko sabh kuch nahi milta,
Nadi ki har lehar ko sahil nahi milta,
Yeh dil walon ki dunia hai dost,
Kisi se dil nahi milta to koi dil se nahi milta.
Log kahtey hain ki ladkiyan zindagi hoti hain maut nahi,
Magar voh kya jane ki dhoka bhi zindagi deti hai maut nahi.
Tune kuchh bhi na kaha ho jaise,
Mere hi dil ki sada ho jaise,
Yoon teri yaad se jee ghabraaya,
Tu mujhe bhool gaya ho jaise...
Ab umar ho gayi hai dil ki kitab mein
Khusk patton ke siva kuch na raha
Jazbat tamam kho gaye lamho ki dhul mein
Ab dil mein dharkanon ke siva kuch na raha

Love Aaj Kal Review - Love Aaj Kal Movie Review - Star Cast and Rating Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone Love Aaj Kal

Saif Ali Khan's maiden venture LOVE AAJ KAL co-starring stunning damsel Deepika Padukone, is said to be like Test cricket and Twenty20 rolled into one. The makers of the film, about love across generations, have now entered into a promotional tie up with ESPN STAR Sports to run promos that will drive salience for the forthcoming ICC World Twenty20 which will be televised live on STAR Cricket and thereby LOVE AAJ KAL to be released shortly.

LOVE AAJ KAL tells a tale of two loves - Love Aaj where the game of love is played quick and easy like an exciting T20 Cricket match and Love Kal which is the more steady and pure form- like a game of classic cricket. The hot couple Saif and Deepika will also be seen in the commentator's box during the world cup, also cheering the Indian team.

Dwelling more on this Dinesh Vijan, co-producer, Illuminati Films says ''The tie up between ESPN and Illuminati films comes naturally as both T20 Cricket and Love Aaj Kal speak the language of today's generation. The story of change from traditional cricket to T20 is similar to the way love has evolved today so there is a strong association for both the parties and we are both looking forward to it '' Hope this tie up ushers in as much excitement for LOVE AAJ KAL too!
